New Zealand Embassy and the University of Otago Discuss Academic Collaboration and Promote Study Opportunities in New Zealand

On 1 September 2026, the International Relations Office of Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) hosted a meeting to discuss academic collaboration with Ms. Jaruwan Phongcharuwat, Director of the Education Section, New Zealand Embassy in Thailand, together with Mr. Paul Baker, Director of the University of Otago’s Language Centre, and Mr. Tam Le, Regional Market Manager, Southeast Asia, University of Otago, from the University of Otago, New Zealand.

The meeting was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Siraprapa Chainetr, Vice President for Council Affairs and Quality System Development, and attended by Associate Professor Thitibhorn Phantachang, Assistant to the President, as well as lecturers and staff members from the International Relations Office. The meeting was held at the Somphor Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Office of the President Building, RMUTL.

The meeting aimed to review and present the outcomes of collaborative projects between RMUTL and the University of Otago implemented in 2025, as well as to explore opportunities to further develop and expand academic collaboration in the future. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing English language skills among RMUTL students and staff, strengthening their English communication competencies, and preparing them for learning and working in an international environment.

On the same occasion, the delegation also conducted a special session on study opportunities in New Zealand for RMUTL students at the Buarawong Room, 53rd Anniversary Building. More than 70 students from the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Business Administration and Liberal Arts, and Faculty of Art and Architecture attended the session. The activity provided students with valuable information about study opportunities in New Zealand, while also giving them an opportunity to exchange ideas and gain insights into international education directly from representatives of the University of Otago.

The collaboration between RMUTL and the University of Otago represents another important step in promoting lifelong learning and enhancing the potential of students and staff through expanded educational opportunities and the development of essential skills for the modern world. This initiative is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. It also contributes to strengthening international educational networks, supporting human resource development, and fostering meaningful and sustainable partnerships between institutions in the long term.
