On 1 July 2026, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), by Office of International Relations, organized the Cultural and Historical Exploration in Chiang Mai for 40 exchange students and faculty members from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), Vietnam. The activity aimed to provide participants with an opportunity to explore Chiang Mai's rich cultural heritage, local way of life, and unique Lanna identity through visits to some of the province's most significant historical and cultural landmarks. The participants were taking part in the academic exchange program between the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, hosted by the Faculty of Engineering, during 23 June – 3 July 2026.

The program began with a visit to the Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre, where participants explored exhibitions showcasing the history, traditions, local wisdom, and development of Chiang Mai from its founding to the present day. The visit provided valuable insights into the significance of the ancient Lanna Kingdom and the importance of preserving Chiang Mai's rich cultural heritage.

The group then visited Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan, one of Chiang Mai's most revered royal temples and a prominent spiritual landmark of the city. The temple houses the sacred Phra Buddha Sihing image, which is deeply respected by Thai Buddhists. Participants also admired the exquisite Lanna-style architecture, reflecting the artistic excellence, craftsmanship, and cultural identity of Northern Thailand.

The cultural excursion continued at Wat Lok Moli, an ancient temple renowned for its remarkable Lanna architecture. Participants were particularly impressed by its beautifully preserved wooden viharn (ordination hall) and magnificent ancient chedi, both of which exemplify the elegance and architectural heritage of the Lanna Kingdom. The peaceful atmosphere and historical significance of the temple offered participants a meaningful opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of local beliefs, traditions, and cultural values.

Beyond enriching participants' understanding of Thai history, arts, and culture, the activity promoted intercultural learning and encouraged meaningful exchanges between Thai and Vietnamese participants. It also strengthened the partnership between RMUTL and UEH, contributing to the continued development of academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between the two institutions in a sustainable manner.
