On September 3, 2024, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), through its Office of International Relations, held the opening ceremony of the TF-Scale 2024 Workshop, in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Singapore. The ceremony was hosted on the 4th floor of RMUTL’s central library and presided over by Dr. Nopadon Maneetian, Director of the College of Integrated Science and Technology.
The event welcomed more than 60 participants, including faculty members and students from both institutions, with representation from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Business Administration and Liberal Arts at RMUTL, as well as 33 delegates from SP.
Following a prior workshop held in Singapore in March 2024, this second phase of TF-Scale 2024 runs from September 2 to 13, 2024, and aims to empower students through collaborative learning and hands-on community engagement. Working in interdisciplinary teams, students apply design thinking methodologies, critical problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication skills in addressing challenges within the local community of Ban Kad Subdistrict, Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai Province.
This year’s workshop explores three key community issues:
Elderlies’ Well-Being
Teachers’ Anxiety and Stress Management
Food Awareness and Nutrition among Students
The program integrates field-based experiences with educational components, including lectures by experts, orientation sessions, and workshops designed to deepen student understanding of local issues. These activities also serve as a platform for students to develop practical educational tools and propose innovative, sustainable solutions alongside local stakeholders.
Notable lectures during the orientation included:
Elderlies’ Well-Being by Dr. Waraluk Poo Sungnoen, Chiang Mai Neurological Hospital
Teachers’ Anxiety by Dr. Thanyalak Boonlue and Dr. Noraset Techa, RMUTL
Food Awareness by Asst. Prof. Dr. Janyawat Tanchorenrath Wuttichamnong, RMUTL
The workshop concluded its first day with a design thinking session focused on empathy, contextual understanding, and community sensitivity, preparing students for in-field activities scheduled to begin the following day.
This collaborative effort demonstrates a strong commitment to using student-centered learning as a tool for sustainable community development, while also fostering leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and practical experience in solving real-world problems. Through the integration of academic knowledge with community-based challenges, the program reflects the essential role of higher education in driving forward long-term, people-focused development goals.
